We also have some valuable information on writing a winning CV from our Job Search Consultant, Lorna Brink. Our travel special this month to Australia may be of interest to anyone that is wanting to spend a 10 day tour of New South Wales over the holiday period. Happy reading!

Processing times frames for Australia. Please note that if you are an Australian Client and your case has been lodged this year, DIMIA is currently processing lodgements that were applied for in March 2006. If you have any queries, please contact your Client Services Manager.

Visa's for Australia. It is a requirement of Australia that every person wanting to travel to Australia, on holiday, business or for immigration purposes have the correct visa in your passport. To obtain a visitors visa, please contact VFS or Network Migration Services and we can forward you the details. If you do not secure a visa in time of your travel you will be declined entry at the port of entry in Australia.

Importing a motor vehicle into New Zealand – First time immigrants may import a vehicle free of duty or GST, provided you have owned and used the vehicle for twelve months prior to shipment and you agree to retain the vehicle for two years on arrival into New Zealand.

All vehicles must be steam-cleaned prior to shipping and an authorised certificate provided for the Ministry of Agriculture. The interior of the vehicle must also be cleaned. Do not include household and personal effects in your vehicle – these can not be cleared under your motor vehicle clearance.

All shippers of motor vehicles will be required to attend an interview with New Zealand Customs at the Port of Entry. Invoiced proof of purchase, ownership papers, current Driver's Licence, plus an invoice for shipping and insurance costs will be required at this interview.

Once you car has been cleared and you have collected it from the depot you will have to arrange for an inspection to ensure that it complies with all New Zealand regulations.

A Winning CV. By Network Migration Services Job Search Consultant, Lorna Brink -Your CV is your personal advertisement – it is usually the first impression you make to a prospective employer. It is essentially a sales tool, it's sole purpose is to get you an interview. Employers receive hundreds of CV’s for every available position. Somewhere in that pile is yours. Research shows that recruiters spend about five seconds glancing at each CV. Your objective is to make it to the top of the pile that gets considered for an interview.

Some helpful tips

  • Include the following: Contact Information, Key Skills, Work Experience, Achievements, Education & Training.

  • Define who you are, (your experience, qualifications and work history) as informatively, clearly and concisely as possible.

  • Also write how your skills and experience match the desired skills for this position in the covering letter/email.

  • Grab the employer’s attention by focusing on the benefits that your skill set can provide their company. Let them know about your achievements.

  • Space it out well, never clutter a page with too much information. First impressions count.

  • Have your most recent position first, then take it chronologically from there.

  • Keep it short and simple. The length of the CV is related to how much work experience you have accumulated. Your most recent experience should receive the greatest exposure. If you've been in the workforce for a long time, simply list the position, company and dates of roles more than 7 years ago. Everything up to 7 years ago MUST have as much detail as possible.

  • Use pro-active words and concise sentences.

  • Be honest. Don’t exaggerate your experience to make it sound more impressive.

  • Always proofread your resume for spelling and grammatical errors.

Applying for a Tax Clearance Certificate for Immigration purposes - To apply for a tax clearance certificate you must complete the necessary SARS form TCC001. Once completed and returned to the SARS office the consultant will ensure that all your taxes are in order and there are no outstanding payments. Once this is cleared, they will issue you with a Tax Clearance Certificate which is valid for 12 months from date of issue.

Processing times are current approximately 10 working days from application. It would be advisable to apply for this up to a month before departing South Africa. To find out further information, please contact your local SARS office or your Tax Advisor.

If you are departing South Africa on a one-way ticket (only available if you have permanent residency or long-term work permit) you will be required to show this at the South African boarder.
